Human Flourishing in a Time of Peril

We live in remarkable - and challenging - times. We have never had it so good. Discoveries in science and medicine have conquered old diseases. New technology makes us a global village. We have created the most affluent class of people on earth. Average Americans have doubled real incomes. We are better fed, housed, educated, and healthier than ever before. We have greater human rights, faster communication, and are able to travel almost
anywhere in the world.
But, the American dream of "having it all," obtaining prosperity and ceaseless pleasure and avoiding unwanted obligations and constraints, leaves increasing numbers of people feeling something vital is missing from their lives, namely a sense of meaning and fulfillment.
To create a new American dream we need to consider how we shall live; we need a vision of what we are striving for. To find that vision, we must define what a well-lived life actually is.
The good life is not related to money, power, wealth or fame, but to living with love, ethics, creativity and spirituality.

In this workshop - a combination of lecture and dialogue between the presenter and the audience - we explore the ingredients of the good life. Topics include:
Myths of Human Flourishing
Cherishing Beauty
Fostering Creative Living
Ethics - Integrating Altruism and Self-Care
Deepening Intimacy
Bringing Spirituality Down to Earth
